3 big tourist destinations which still haven’t lost their local charm

Across the world, there is an endless number of places that have drawn visitors for various reasons. However, there are a few that have retained a perpetual charm that does not seem to fade. Boasting of a rich civilization, culture, historical streets, distinctive food and a plethora of eye-pleasing sights, these places have preserved their allure as some of the world’s most touristy places to visit. Interestingly enough, these places are always the top choice on everyone’s vacation planning bucket list!  So much so, that people have gone on to mould their trip planning process to fit their interests like romance, art, food, history and even socialising.

Wondering what are these fabulous places? Here’ a lowdown on three big tourist destinations which still have not lost their charm:

Paris

Garnering the moniker of “City of lights” and “City of Love” among a few more, Paris is one travel destination that can never get too old. At the mention of Paris, you are most likely to picture the glistening Eiffel tower, the clean rues of various arrondissements, inviting street-fringing cafes, delectable macarons, high fashion and of course a gamut of art! Paris is by far the most visited city in the whole world, from the tourism point of view.

A place that is home to a cluster of speciality museums housing some of the greatest works of art in history, Paris arouses interests even in those not keen on art and culture. Musée d’Orsay, Louvre Museum, Musée de l’Orangerie and the Louvre Museum are some fine example justifying the aforementioned statement. Then there are the landmarks and sites like Palais Garnier – Opéra National de Paris, Sainte-Chapelle, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Pont Alexandre III along with much more that bestow Paris its unparalleled character.

Athens

One of the world’s oldest cities, Athens attracts tourists by its maze of beautiful ruins. Serving as the capital of Greece, today, Athens has evidences of civilization dating back to the 11th and 7th millennium BCE! Ever since the Olympic Games that were held here in the year 2004, the infrastructure of the city was improved to accommodate international visitors.

Museums like the Acropolis Museum, Museum of Cycladic Art and National Archaeological Museum throw light on objects gathered from the past. These museums are a great place if you wish to get lost in the region’s history and art. Sites featuring ancient ruins are what people especially look forward to; Parthenon, Acropolis, Temple of Hephaestus, Erechtheion and the Anafiotika are some of the most popular examples. To get a glimpse of the local life from up close heading to the quaint neighborhoods of Plaka, Monastiraki, and Psirri is highly suggested.

And finally, we have the glorious Rome! With a history that dates back to a whopping twenty-eight centuries, Rome comprises of some of the world’s most historical sites. Colosseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and the Le Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini are most-visited sites in Rome. And then, of course, there are the delectable pastas and gelatos! It’s a dreamy situation when you are walking on these beautiful cobbled streets of Rome, savouring some chocolate gelato!
